A Day In The Life of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics

Oh what a day! Headed up North on Sunday. . .the day of the big game! The USA vs. Canada in Hockey!!! We were on our way by 9:30am just an hour past the time we were supposed to leave, but made it in record time. Just ten minutes through the border crossing though signs posted had told us 50 minutes! WHAT??! Met up with a friend in North Vancouver and took the Sea Bus (kinda of like a ferry, but not really) and made our first stop through the crowds to see the Olympic Torch! Nice, but I was more impressed with the actual torch relay (see post below) but it was a must see and made for some good pics. Then we headed through a sea of RED. . .mittens, hats, flags, balloons, jersey's, shirts, coats, wigs and painted faces, in search of a place to watch "THE GAME"! The lines wrapped around blocks to get into the live city events and bars, however we sneeked our way into Rosies and joined the standing room only crowd! A great game it was, as I quietly screamed a little to loud as team USA kicked Canadian bumms!! Oh what a day, eh!

Olympic Torch Relay! An Amazing Day! 2-09-10

We headed out this morning at 1:30am for an adventure of a lifetime. We made good time only 1 hour and 45 minutes. Parked the car at the Peace Arch Park in Blaine Washington and slept for about an hour and 45 minutes! We woke up to the horn of a train, bundled up and headed into the foggy, icey morning dew through the park to the Arch! A few people had arrived as early as us including Gov. Chris Gregoire, so we had plenty of space to roam around and plan our shoot. As the sun began to rise over the Peace Arch and The fog broke the park began to fill with more and more people. It was a beautiful mix of cultures. Children, adults and dogs. . .I began to capture the people. And then the torch relay began. . . and song filled the morning air! Olympic Medalist Phil Mahre carried the torch for the USA. The only time the torch would touch american land. The Olympic spirit is really about that," he said. "It's about unity and camaraderie and peace." I was right there up front and able to capture this untiy between two lands. "We celebrate a flame that reminds us of what we can accomplish when we work together," said British Columbia Premiere Gordon Campbell. This event was for the people and as I ran along snapping memories to last beyond I lifetime I will never forget the peace and pride that filled the hearts of everyone who attened this event.
